The big watchword nowadays in the online marketing game is the concept of a niche. There are many different niches online that people can exploit in order to get their foot in the door but something they might not be aware of is the exact definition of a niche. People are always telling you that finding your niche is the secret to success but many people might not really be aware of what a niche is.

A niche, simply put, is a small area of a market that you focus your efforts on. Usually people identify niches in terms of subject matter (i.e. if the general market is for hairspray then organic moose products might be a niche of that general market) as this is by far the easiest way to categorize a customer base. The reason that people are so enthusiastic about niches is that niches are very rarely covered by the big company. Because of their mass marketing techniques a big company does not have the ability to cater to every individual niche inside a customer base. This leaves the niches open to be targeted by savvy internet marketers.
